    The Avalon Hollywood will be the site of the 18th Annual Super-Star Celebration Fundraising Brunch benefiting the L.A.C.E.R. Afterschool Programs. To be held on Sunday, November 17th, L.A.C.E.R. will be honoring Grammy Award Winning Singer/Song Writer k.d.lang.
     
    Declared by Tony Bennett to be the “best singer of her generation”, k.d. lang has been thrilling audiences with her unparalleled vocal stylings and exuberant performances for more than 25 years. The recipient of 14 Grammy nominations and 4 Grammy Awards, k.d. serves as an ambassador for Tools for Peace, a transformative program offered through L.A.C.E.R. that teaches youth a set of skills for peaceful conflict resolution.
     
    The Super-Star Celebration Fundraising Brunch will be hosted by Fritz Coleman and Will Seymour and will also be attended by musician, songwriter, record producer and previous L.A.C.E.R. honoree Linda Perry and by Sara Gilbert, actress and creator/co-host of CBS’s The Talk.  City Councilmember Tom LaBonge will also be honored.

  4. k.d. lang to Make Her Broadway Debut in "AFTER MIDNIGHT"

     

    Producers Scott Sanders and Wynton Marsalis announced today that k.d. lang will make her Broadway debut in the new musical "After Midnight." She will join the company following fellow Grammy Award-winner Fantasia as the second “Special Guest Star” vocalist beginning Tuesday, February 11, 2014 (and continuing through Sunday, March 9, 2014). As previously announced, "After Midnight" will reintroduce the Cotton Club's exciting tradition of welcoming the stars of today in limited engagements throughout the musical's run. Tickets for k.d. lang’s engagement will go on sale Monday, November 4, 2013.
     
    The wildly eclectic opening night cast of "After Midnight" will also include the previously announced Dulé Hill and Tony Award winner Adriane Lenox along with star dancers Julius “Iglide” Chisholm, Virgil J. Gadson, Dormeshia Sumbry-Edwards, Karine Plantadit and Jared Grimes; vocalists Everett Bradley, Carmen Ruby Floyd, Rosena M. Hill Jackson, Monroe Kent III, Cedric Neal, Bryonha Marie Parham and T. Oliver Reid; and dancers Marija Abney, Phillip Attmore, Christopher Broughton, Taeler Elyse Cyrus, C.K. Edwards, Danielle Herbert, Bahiyah Hibah, David Jennings, Erin N. Moore, Justin Prescott, Desmond Richardson, Monique Smith and Daniel J. Watts.
    The evocative "After Midnight" will take the sexy, smoky glamour of the original Jazz Age and catapult it into a whole new era of heart-pounding, mind-blowing entertainment for modern Broadway audiences.
     
    Refracted through a contemporary lens, "After Midnight" will celebrate Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club using his original arrangements and performed by a world-class big band of 17 musicians hand-picked by living jazz legend, Wynton Marsalis. The timeless tunes set against a narrative of Langston Hughes poetry will provide an authentic backdrop for an array of cutting-edge performances by 25 sensational vocalists and dancers, including special guest stars, whose interpretations will shatter everything you think you know about music, nightlife and Broadway.
     
    "After Midnight" is a new production of Cotton Club Parade which played two smash-hit, sold-out engagements at City Center. Conceived by Jack Viertel, "After Midnight" features direction and choreography by Warren Carlyle, musical direction by Wynton Marsalis and musical supervision by Daryl Waters.
     
    The design team for "After Midnight" will include prolific design couple Isabel Toledo (costumes) and Ruben Toledo, Tony Award-winners John Lee Beatty (set design), Howell Binkley (lighting design) and Peter Hylenski (sound).
     
    "After Midnight" is produced by Scott Sanders Productions, and Wynton Marsalis, in association with Marks-Moore-Turnbull Group; Stephen and Ruth Hendel; Tom Kirdahy.
     
    The performance schedule for After Midnight will be as follows: Beginning November 5, 2013: Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30 pm, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, and matinee performances on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 pm and Sundays at 3 pm. Tickets range from $60.00 to $142.00 (premium tickets will be available for $199).
